SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – US50 between South Lake Tahoe and Placerville is open this morning with chain controls, but driving is “treacherous” according to those driving the road Thursday. There are numerous downed trees on the highway between Riverton and Placerville.
As of 10 a.m, Thursday, PG&E, Caltrans and the California Highway Patrol are reporting downed trees and power lines over US50 near Ice House Road, Fresh Pond, Sly Park, and Pollock Pines.
Road controls are in place on US50 from Meyers to East Placerville/Smith Flat. There are numerous vehicles stuck in snowbanks along the entire length of the chain requirement area.
Snow is expected throughout the day with another 1″-3″ expected at lake level today.
Road controls as of 10 a.m. Thursday:
US50 – Chains are required on all vehicles except 4-wheel-drive vehicles with snow tires on all 4 wheels from 3 mi east of Placerville to Meyers (El Dorado Co)
I80 – Is closed from Colfax (Placer Co) to the Nevada State Line – Due to zero visibility
SR89 – Is closed at Emerald Bay State Park (El Dorado Co) – Due to snow – Motorists are advised to use an alternate route. Chains are required on all vehicles except 4-wheel-drive vehicles with snow tires on all 4 wheels from Picketts Jct (Alpine Co) to 2.7 mi south of the Jct of US 50 (El Dorado Co) /Luther Pass. Chains are required on all vehicles except 4-wheel-drive vehicles with snow tires on all 4 wheels from 5 mi north of the Jct of US 50 to Bliss State Park (El Dorado Co). Chains are required on all vehicles except 4-wheel-drive vehicles with snow tires on all 4 wheels from Bliss State Park (El Dorado Co) to the Jct of I 80 (Nevada Co)
SR88 – Is closed from Dew Drop (Amador Co) to 5 mi west of Picketts Jct (Alpine Co) – Due to snow – Motorists are advised to use an alternate route
SR207 Kingsbury – Chains Required, All Vehicles except 4-wheel drive with Snow tires
US50 Nevada – Chains Required, All Vehicles except 4-wheel drive with Snow tires from state line to Carson City.
