SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – Unity at the Lake is excited to announce the return of the Tibetan Buddhist Monks to South Lake Tahoe on Wednesday, March 5 through Sunday, March 9.
Most of the events will take place at Unity of the Lake, 870 Emerald Bay Road, South Lake Tahoe. There will also be a tea at the Black Bear Lodge and welcoming at Co-Work Tahoe (see schedule link below for details).
The monks have been hosted by a variety of entities over the last 25+ years. In the past they have created a Sand Mandala at Valhalla. The Blue Angel loft, (currently Yugen Sushi) held various teachings, healings and cultural offerings.
The monks are visiting South Lake Tahoe to bring cultural awareness and to help raise funds for their school. Gaden Shartse Monastic College is situated amid lush green hills and jungle in the remote countryside of southern India. It was founded in 1969 as an effort to re-establish one of the great monastic traditions of Tibet.
Today, the college is at the forefront of the revival of Tibetan Monastic education, with more than 1600 resident students, teachers, scholars, and spiritual practitioners. More than 70 percent of the members are between the ages of 10 and 25 and 80 percent were born in Tibet. To this day, young monks arrive at the Monastery weekly from Tibet, seeking shelter and education.
The current tour will offer teachings, blessings ~ Home, business and animal, along with family and kids’ activities.
