The Carson City Sheriff’s Office is deeply saddened to announce the passing of K9 Officer Tarzan, a dedicated and courageous member of our K9 Unit. K9 Tarzan passed away from natural causes January 2025, leaving behind a legacy of service, loyalty, and bravery. Tarzan served the Carson City community for more than 7 years, after which he retired and enjoyed roughly 5 years at home with his family. Tarzan was 14 years old and was with his family through the end.
K9 Tarzan served the Carson City community with distinction, partnering with Sergeant Riggin in the fight against crime. Throughout his career, Tarzan played a crucial role in narcotics detection, suspect apprehension, search and rescue operations, and public outreach efforts. His keen instincts and unwavering commitment to duty made him an invaluable asset to law enforcement and a beloved member of the Sheriff’s Office.
Tarzan was more than just a working K9—he was family. His dedication to protecting our community and supporting his fellow officers was truly remarkable. He will be greatly missed by his handler, our department, and the many lives he touched.
K9 Tarzan’s service extended beyond law enforcement, as he was a frequent presence at community events, school demonstrations, and public safety initiatives. His interactions with citizens, especially children, helped foster strong relationships between law enforcement and the community.
The Carson City Sheriff’s Office extends its heartfelt gratitude to the community for its support during this difficult time.
