The Tahoe Regional Planning Agency (TRPA) has extended the application period for new moorings (buoys, slips and boat lifts) for the first lottery drawing allowed under the Lake Tahoe Shoreline Plan.

Applications for the lottery can now be submitted online until 5:00 p.m. PST April 23, 2021, according to the agency. All applications submitted before the deadline will be considered equally. The lottery drawing is scheduled to take place May 19, 2021.

The Shoreline Plan, approved in 2018, places a cap on the total number of moorings allowed in the Tahoe Region and establishes an annual lottery system to allocate new moorings. A mooring lottery will be conducted annually until all allocations are distributed, according to TRPA.

Applicants must meet certain criteria to enter, however the drawing is only for an allocation. If an allocation is received, a complete permit application will be required. Only littoral shoreline properties, those that adjoin or abut the highwater line of Lake Tahoe, are eligible to enter the lottery, the agency said.

Annual mooring registration fees are due June 30, 2021. To renew your mooring registration visit the online registration renewal page. If TRPA is still processing your 2019 submittal, you will be unable to renew at this time.

To enter the mooring lottery, a nonrefundable Mooring Lottery Eligibility Review Fee of $63 is required. One time fees for the mooring include an application fee, scenic review fee, stormwater fee and IT surcharge. Buoys one-time fees are $944, slips and boat lifts are $3458. Annual registration fees start at $86.
