SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. For the last month, local restaurants have filled a much-needed gap in our community by donating food to the local unhoused population. It is extremely difficult not to know where your next meal is coming from or to go to bed hungry. This feeling is only exacerbated by living in a place like South Lake Tahoe – cold, mountainous terrain is a harsh reality. Especially after we all experienced the largest storm of the year with rapid snowfall for days, followed by rainstorms. At a time when our neighbors were truly in need, we are happy to say comfort was provided in the form of meals.

The Marcella Foundation team extends endless gratitude to the businesses that participated in our Show the Love campaign over the last month. To celebrate Valentine’s Day, we asked local restaurants to donate a meal to our local homeless shelter. Multiple businesses stepped up and left our community feeling the love and food in their bellies. Thank you to these donors for providing warm, nutritious meals:

  • Fox & Hound Smokehouse Grill & Bar
  • Lake Tahoe Community College Culinary Kitchen
  • Basecamp Pizza Company
  • Azul Latin Kitchen
  • The Cork & More
  • Lazy Bear Bakery (located in Cascade Kitchens)
  • Blue Dog Pizza
  • Zephyr Point Conference Center
  • Dragonfly Bagel Company

While some businesses donated a specific meal, there were others who shared their surplus food. Thank you to our incredible food donor partners who have continuously shown love these past few weeks by providing food to our local shelter:

  • Barton Hospital Mountain Cafe
  • Margaritaville Lake Tahoe
  • Cuppa Tahoe
  • Starbucks at the Y

Donating food is simple through the Marcella Foundation’s FeedTahoe program because they coordinate all the logistics and fit into the schedule of each restaurant. After confirming a date and time, a FeedTahoe volunteer handles the pickup and delivery all within 30 minutes. It is a quick and easy way to make a difference, while sharing excellent food with others. Our community is very appreciative of the long-standing support to feed families, seniors, students, and neighbors. Food rescue truly highlights the goodness of Tahoe – generous businesses, supportive volunteers, and hardworking recipients. FeedTahoe is honored to work alongside all of Tahoe’s wonderful collaborators year-round and always welcomes new partnerships.
