
SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – The National Weather Service (NWS) in Reno has issued a Winter Weather Advisory in effect for Wednesday from 4 a.m. to 1 p.m. Then, with rain forecast at Lake Tahoe, a Winter Storm Watch is in effect from Thursday afternoon through Sunday morning above 6500 feet.
On Wednesday, snow is expected. Total snow accumulations of 2 to 4 inches are possible for the eastern shores of Lake Tahoe. Western Lake Tahoe communities could see 6-12 inches of new snow, while Sierra passes could see up to 14 inches through Wednesday afternoon. South Lake Tahoe could see 4 to 7 inches.
Winds gusting as high as 75 mph along the Sierra crest. For the Winter Storm Watch above 6500 feet, heavy snow is possible. Total snow accumulations of 8 to 20 inches, except 2 to 4 feet above 7000 feet possible. Winds could gust as high as 120 mph along the Sierra crest.
There is no real break until the next system, the atmospheric river, comes Thursday-Sunday, and another next Monday.
