TRUCKEE, Calif. – The Truckee Police Department (TPD) responded to a vehicle versus pedestrian collision on Donner Pass Road Saturday around 6 p.m. When police arrived, they found two pedestrians had been hit by a car. One of those people died at the scene, and the other was transported to the hospital with major injuries.
The driver of the car stayed at the scene. He was arrested for 192 (c)(2) PC vehicular manslaughter, a misdemeanor, and was booked into the Nevada County Jail. At this point of the investigation, it does not appear that alcohol or drugs were a factor in the collision. The Nevada County Jail log says the suspect is a 22-year-old man who is being held on $5,000 bail in the Truckee jail.
The collision occurred on Donner Pass Road near the Tahoe Donner boat launch.
The names of the victims will not be released at this time. The decedent was turned over to the Nevada County Sheriff’s Office Coroner. This is still an active investigation. If you have any information regarding this incident, please call the Truckee Police Department at 530-550-2320.
