EL DORADO COUNTY, Calif. – The El Dorado County Department of Transportation will be holding a community meeting on Wednesday, March 18 at 6:00 p.m. at Meyers Elementary School.

The purpose of the meeting is to gain input concerning a proposed change to parking regulations on county roadways.

In December, the El Dorado County Board of Supervisors had a second reading of an amended ordinance on their meeting agenda that, if approved, would have prohibited parking on county roads from November 1 through May 1. Exempt from that ordinance would have been “except in areas specifically designated by signs to permit such parking.”

District V Supervisor Brooke Laine had asked for the item to be pulled off the second reading agenda after hearing back from many Lake Tahoe basin residents and recreationists who park on the county roads to access the backcountry. They were concerned about the unintended consequences of a blanket rule with a one-size-fits-all basis.

At that meeting, the supervisors and the county transportation staff both agreed the ordinance was not ready to be approved, and instead promised to hold some public town halls and meet with stakeholders for new rules before the 2026/27 winter.

Meyers Elementary is located at 1095 E San Bernardino Ave., South Lake Tahoe.
