Kirkwood Mountain Resort, one of Vail’s three local ski resorts, offers skiers and riders not only great snow days but also a variety of activities, including cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, and dog sled tours. Kirkwood also demonstrates strong support for the Lake Tahoe South Shore community by hosting Bread & Broth Adopt A Day of Nourishment (AAD) sponsorships. Through the Vail EpicPromise Grant, Kirkwood sponsors six Adopt A Day dinners annually, with its second sponsorship of 2026 on Monday, March 9.
On March 9, Kirkwood Mountain Resort’s staff participated in the Monday Meal AAD volunteer experience. The Kirkwood AAD team included Cara Bourne, Cross Country Manager; Fletcher McClure, Grooming Manager; and James Schlink and Matt Taschett from Lift Operations. Serving as AAD team members, they joined the Bread & Broth volunteers from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m., helping with the preparations for the meal service, organizing the ‘food giveaway’ items, serving the early evening meal, and assisting with cleanup after the event.
The weekly Monday Meal is a hot, full-course dinner served to everyone who attends. The meal takes place at St. Theresa’s Grace Hall from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Typically, the dinner welcomes between 100 and 130 dinner guests each week. The complimentary meal and additional bags of food are vital to the nutritional well-being and the social interaction of those attending. The event provides a warm, welcoming atmosphere and supplies nutritious food to many vulnerable community members.

Kirkwood AAD team members are always a welcome presence at a Monday Meal. They are enthusiastic workers who consistently bring smiles and kindness to the dinner guests, helping everyone fell welcome and valued.
