SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – Strong high pressure will result in historic March warmth this week. Dry and mild weather is favored through next weekend, but a more unsettled pattern is possible for the final week of March, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Reno.

Light east breezes and mild temperatures rounded out the weekend before attention turns to record-breaking warmth this week. Unseasonably strong high pressure begins to overspread the region on Monday, sharply increasing temperatures by around 5-10F compared to Sunday. For Reno and Carson City, records may just be out of reach. Daytime highs are projected to be in the mid-60s to upper 70s on Monday, which is about 15-20F above seasonal averages. For Tahoe, the highs will be in the 70s after Monday, near records for a month that can be snowy and host to “Miracle March” scenarios.

While temperatures will continue to trend well above normal next weekend, high pressure will finally depart eastward and allow for steady cooling into the weekend. We`ll be devoid of any precipitation through next weekend, but there continues to be
hints of a pattern change that may bring wetter weather during the last week of March.
