SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – A late season storm system moving into the region will lead to strong winds this evening, then heavy Sierra snowfall overnight through Monday. A Winter Weather Advisory is in place for the Sierra Nevada until 11 p.m. Monday. The heaviest precipitation will be from midnight tonight onward through Monday morning. Expect chilly temperatures Tuesday to be followed by slight warming and periods of unsettled weather by mid to late week, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Reno.
The Sierra Avalanche Center in Truckee has issued a Backcountry Avalanche Watch for the Greater Lake Tahoe from Yuba Pass on SR49 to Ebbetts Pass on SR4. They are calling for High Avalance Danger through Monday evening.
