DOUGLAS COUNTY, Nev. – The Douglas County School District Board of Trustees will hold its next meeting on Thursday, March 20 at 4 p.m. in the Minden Airport training room.

On the agenda, the trustees will be discussing a proposed cell tower on or near Douglas High School by Verizon Wireless. The company wants to replace a 58-foot field light at the football field behind the bleachers with an 80-foot pole with antennae above the lights. An alternative is the pole installation at Fire Station #14. The District would earn income from a lease agreement with Verizon if the plan is approved. The Board is scheduled to discuss current legal requirements and best practices for the tower on school property. The discussion will cover the proposed site, the potential benefits, and any concerns related to health, safety, aesthetics, and community impact. The board will review the terms of any lease or agreement with the telecom provider, and how the installation aligns with the school’s long-term strategic goals.

Douglas County School District is now offering local businesses the opportunity to advertise on school buses, This program provides high-visibility advertising while supporting schools. The cost for businesses is $300 per month for one bus, $250 per month per bus for 5-10 buses, and $200 per month per bus for ten or more buses.

After the 2023-23 fiasco over public records requests that is costing the District tens of thousands of dollars, the Board will have a discussion and possible action to review, approve, revise, or deny the District’s current board policy and administrative regulation regarding Public Records Requests to ensure compliance with current legal requirements and best practices.
