EL DORADO COUNTY, Calif. – One of El Dorado County’s most iconic and anticipated traditions is back, and organizers are encouraging participants to start planning. Registration for the 82nd annual Wheelbarrow Races is now live, with race spots expected to fill quickly. Interest in the historic event has surged in recent years. In 2025, multiple races sold out before race day, reflecting the growing popularity of the event among longtime locals and first-time participants alike. Organizers anticipate similar, if not greater, demand this year. Secure your registration now at www.studebakerwheelbarrowraces.com

“The Wheelbarrow Races have become a must-do experience for individuals, teams, and families,” said Dina Gentry, president-elect of Kiwanis and chairperson of this year’s planning committee. “We strongly encourage racers to register early to secure their place and avoid disappointment.”

Hosted by the Kiwanis Club of Placerville, the Wheelbarrow Races are the organization’s signature annual fundraiser. Proceeds benefit students and youth-focused programs throughout the greater Placerville and El Dorado County region, supporting scholarships and community initiatives that strengthen local education and opportunity.

The Wheelbarrow Races celebrate Placerville’s Gold Rush heritage with a spirited, community-wide competition that draws racers and spectators from across the region. Participants race through an obstacle course set up on the racetrack at the Placerville Speedway during the El Dorado County Fair, combining athleticism, teamwork, and a healthy dose of fun.

Businesses and organizations that sponsor will receive significant public exposure through event promotions and race-day visibility. For sponsorship information, contact Paul Zappettini, President of the El Dorado Community Foundation and an active Kiwanis leader, at 916-425-8909.

Organizers emphasize that early registration is the best way to guarantee participation in this beloved community tradition.
