SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – The trustees of the Lake Tahoe Unified School District (LTUSD) and Lake Tahoe Community College (LTCC) will hold a joint board meeting on Wednesday, March 26, starting at 5:30 p.m. They will be meeting in room L-104, the Board Room.
They will be discussing the collaboration of the two districts. Adam Eynon, director of Dual Enrollment at LTCC, will provide an overview of the ongoing partnership between the two districts. They are in regular collaboration to better serve students in the South Lake Tahoe community. Those collaborative efforts include onboarding efforts for all seniors planning to attend LTCC, FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) assistance for all seniors, LTCC faculty providing a STEM Flex period at South Tahoe High School (STHS), education planning for families at the Family Resource Center, South Tahoe Middle School (STMS) college-mindset efforts, and Discovery Night. Additionally, this academic year (2024-25) is the second year Mount Tallac High School (MTHS) has been conducting its school day every Friday on LTCC’s campus, which has led to many positive impacts for MTHS students and their future goals.
LTUSD and LTCC staff will also provide an update on the progress dual enrollment has made during the past academic year (2024-25), outline the challenges it faces, the next steps to expanding dual enrollment access for all students, and address the current gaps in Intersegmental General Education Transfer Credit/ California General Education Transfer Curriculum (IGETC/Cal-GETC) course offerings.
In the 2024-25 academic year, the number of dual enrollment course offerings didn’t increase in quantity, however, there were some changes to the courses offered and the quantity of IGETC sections. Due to student demand, Chemistry 100 increased from two sections in 2023-24 to three sections in 2024-25. Similarly, English 103 increased from two sections in 2023-24 to three sections in 2024-25. Additionally, there was an increase in enrollments in Elementary Statistics with 20 students in 2023-24 compared to 32 students in 2024-25. This year, however, an IGETC course was lost in Psychology 101 due to STHS staffing shortages, and four sections of the Career & Technical Education (CTE) course Digital Media Arts were lost.
For the 2025-26 academic year, STHS will be adding three new dual enrollment courses: Spanish 201 through the collaborative teaching model, Intro to Hospitality Management with the current STHS teacher meeting minimum qualifications, and Culinary 104 (baking) through the collaborative teaching model.
Three students will be speaking during the joint meeting-STHS 11th grader Arya Saini and 12th grader Lily Erwin, along with Veronica Burgess, a MTHS alum and current LTCC student. They will speak about dual enrollment courses and the MTHS experience at the college. These student leaders will share their personal experiences and insights from their time as students enrolled with both Districts.
Lake Tahoe Unified School District (LTUSD) Superintendent, Dr. Todd Cutler, will provide an update on the successful passage of Measure U, a $127 million general obligation bond aimed at modernizing and improving LTUSD’s school facilities.
LTCC will share information about the college’s 50th anniversary events and gala.
