SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – Both the boys and girls track teams from South Tahoe High School (STHS) performed well in Reno this weekend at the Reed Reno Running Company Invitational.
One school record fell when Peyton Conley took third place in the varsity 100-meter dash. Her 12.52 wasn’t quite enough to win the race, where first place ran 12.36, but fast enough to top the STHS record books.
STHS came home with “Best Overall Team” honors due to the times logged by the boys and girls teams in both varsity and frosh/soph.
“This team is really strong with a bunch of amazing athletes,” said Coach Rob Canny. “They aren’t only great athletes, but have great character. There are remarkable kids on the team, creating an amazing environment.”
Senior Arya Saini, who just committed to attending Columbia University in the fall, brought home a first in the 100-meter hurdles (15.09) and the long jump (16-09.00). She was also a member of the 4×100 meter relay race that took first at 50.84. Also on that relay team were Winter Crawford, Jamie Lowe and Conley.
The STHS girls varsity team was also named the top overall team.
The STHS boys varsity team was named second overall team, but first in the small school category. The frosh/soph team came in first out of 24 teams.
The frosh/soph boys took first and second in the 100-meter dash with Koah Brand (11.51) and Roman Uribe (11.63). They were in the same order in the 200-meters with Brand at 23.71 and Uribe at 24.11.
Freshman Maxwell Vadnais won the varsity 800-meter race with a 2:01.95.
