The Tahoe Grizzlies 12U youth hockey team claimed the California 12U-B state championship title on March 30, holding on to an undefeated season.
“It was such a memorable season for our team,” says Team Manager Ha Dang. “Many of our players were part of a 0-13-1 season just a couple of years ago and have worked really hard through extra practices and training to get to where we are today. We owe so much to Mike Lewis and Chris Collins, who have volunteered much of their time and support to our players.”
The Tahoe Grizzlies 12U team claimed the NorCal regional championship title on March 16 to earn one of four spots in the state championship tournament last weekend. The Mammoth Stars and Coachella Jr Firebirds from the southern California region presented tough games, 9-8 and 7-1, respectively, in the opening round. After the Jr Firebirds upset the Stars in the semifinal game, they faced the Grizzlies in a very physical championship game, with the Grizzlies coming out on top with a 5-0 win.
The Tahoe Grizzlies 10U team also had a tremendous season, ending up in 3rd place for the California 10U-B division after also winning their division of the NorCal regional championship on a couple weeks prior as well.
