On Friday, March 27, Carson City’s Nashville Social Club hosted Vanessa Collier. Ms. Collier is an extraordinary, award-winning blues saxophonist, singer, and songwriter who has been nominated by the Blues Music Awards 15 different times. She has also been named Horn Player of the Year five times and was Contemporary Blues Female Artist of the Year in 2022.
Collier brought her amazing band, which included Laura Chevez on lead guitar, who, in 2023, was the first and only female to ever win the Blues Music Award for Best Instrumentalist on a Guitar. Also in the band are bassist Andrew Cane and percussionist Byron Cage. Together they captivated the sold-out crowd for the entire evening.
The band started the evening with a wonderful bluesy-rock tune, which included Collier playing her mighty sax and guitar. She then welcomed everyone and thanked the audience for selling out the show, and explained how she picked up th saxophone when she was 10 years old, and hasn’t put it down for 26 years!
They continued to play all of Collier’s original tunes for the entire show, with crowd favorites, such as Heart on the Line, Bloodhound, Only Way to Love, and Do It My Own Way. These tunes included amazing saxophone and guitar solos from both Collier and Chevez. They are extremely talented, masterful musicians and fun to watch and enjoy!
According to Blues Blast Magazine, “Vanessa Collier is an important part of the future of the Blues.”
It was an evening of unforgettable soulful blues that moved both your heart and your feet. Collier is truly a world-class artist who does it her own way. If she is performing in your neighborhood, don’t miss her legendary performance!
Thank you to The Nashville Social Club for bringing these legendary musical artists to our neighborhood and keeping the music alive! Thank you to Mr. Conrad Buedel for these wonderful photos.
