A low pressure system has moved over the Sierra, bringing cooler temperatures and precipitation for the next week. Snow levels will be rather high starting around 9,000 feet, dropping periodically down to 7,500 feet. The highest passes could become slick at times, but major issues are not expected.
The added rain should bring Lake Tahoe up to its natural rim of 6,223 feet and spill water into the Truckee River. When that happens it will mark the first time in more than 300 days that Lake Tahoe has topped its natural rim. TRPA says this will also be the end of the longest period below the rim since at least 1994.
