SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – As spring approaches, Lake Tahoe Wildlife Care (LTWC) is preparing for its busiest and most critical season. In 2025, the center has already experienced a 30 percent Increase in wildlife patients, and that number is expected to rise as more orphaned and injured animals are brought in for care. Hundreds of baby squirrels, raccoons, owls, hawks, fawns, and more will be admitted to the wildlife hospital in the coming months. The center invites the community to be a part of this important journey, helping provide the essential care these animals need to thrive and return to the wild.
To help raise funds and supplies for this vital work, LTWC is hosting its Born to Be Wild Baby Shower on April 12, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at their facility in South Lake Tahoe. The event is free to the public, but participants are encouraged to bring much-needed donations.
During this family-friendly event, attendees will meet Porky, LTWC’s ambassador porcupine, and enjoy educational presentations about wildlife care and rehabilitation. The event will also feature fun wildlife-themed games, activities, and a raffle for prizes.
For those interested in an exclusive behind-the-scenes experience, LTWC will offer a special tour of their back facility, including the recently built fawn enclosure. To take part in the tour, attendees are invited to bring one donation item per person from LTWC’s wishlist or make any monetary contribution to the event. The wishlist
includes essential supplies such as paper towels, heating pads, laundry detergent, and other critical items needed to care for the wildlife patients.
“Your involvement doesn’t just help us, it helps give these animals a fighting chance at a healthy, wild future,” said Catherine Mendez, executive director of LTWC. “Together, we can make sure every tiny patient receives the care they need to grow strong and return to the wild, where they belong.”
Spring baby season is always an exciting yet demanding time at LTWC. Donations from the community are crucial in helping LTWC meet the increasing demand for care and provide the best rehabilitation possible.
Supporters are encouraged to bring gifts, make a donation during the event, or mail their contributions directly to the center. For more information, including a complete wishlist of needed supplies, visit https://ltwc.org/baby-shower/
