UPDATE 4/16: The Alpine County Sheriff’s Office has identified the deceased as Sukjdev Singh Gill.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – The California Highway Patrol (CHP) in South Lake Tahoe reports a fatal collision on SR88 near Snowshoe Springs Road. Emergency services responded to the area after a passerby called to tell them of the crash at 1:30 p.m. April 12, 2025.

For unknown reasons, the 80-year-old male driver of a 2008 Chevrolet HHR left the roadway and struck a tree, causing the vehicle to overturn.

The reporting party advised that the vehicle was occupied by one person who was found unresponsive. Upon arrival, CHP personnel worked to extricate the person from inside, and lifesaving measures were taken by CHP, Alpine Sheriff’s Office, and High Country Fire Department.

CHP reports that every effort was exhausted, and unfortunately, the driver succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at 2:05 p.m. by a High
Country Fire Department paramedic.

The collision had no witnesses, and the time of the collision is unknown. Alcohol and drugs are not suspected to be a contributing factor in this collision.

At this time, the name of the deceased has not been released.
