DOUGLAS COUNTY, Nev. – A paraglider sustained extensive injuries on Saturday after crashing in a remote area along the mid-slope of Kingsbury Grade, about one mile from the roadway.
East Fork Fire Protection District, Tahoe Douglas Fire Protection District, Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, and Battle Born Air Medical responded to the incident, which was reported just after 10 a.m. April 18.
Rescue teams hiked to the downed paraglider, accessing an area near Kingsbury Grade. Firefighters hiked into the location with equipment, made patient contact at around 11:18 a.m., and immediately began providing medical care. A helicopter rescue team, RAVEN from Washoe County Sheriff’s Office, also responded, as well as Battle Born Medevac.
The injured man said he had hit rocks and other terrain. He told rescuers he had plunged around 30 feet. Rescuers secured the injured patient, moved him to a clear location, and then airlifted him to the hospital via Battle Born Medevac.
The patient is currently in stable condition at a regional trauma center.
