SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. — Mike Vollmer has been named the new executive director of the Tahoe Resource Conservation District. Vollmer’s work in the Tahoe Basin began over 20 years ago. His extensive background and passion for protecting the basin will help further the mission of the Tahoe RCD.

“We are thrilled to have Mike as our new executive director to guide the Tahoe RCD into the next chapter,” said Board President of the District, Carl Ribaudo. “The RCD has a number of new and exciting initiatives and we believe Mike’s knowledge and experience will be a big help in this next step for the organization.”

Vollmer is the former Fire Adapted Communities program manager at the Tahoe RCD and works as the Central Sierra Zone Shared Stewardship advisor. He is also a California Registered Professional Forester and ISA Certified Arborist with over 28 years of experience in natural resource management. He earned a BS in Natural Resource Management from Humboldt State University and has ample interdisciplinary education and experience in soil science, forestry, urban forestry, prescribed fire, large landscape restoration, and watershed management.

“I am grateful to have such a talented Tahoe RCD staff to work with, excellent and nationally recognized programs, and I am looking forward to serving the amazing Lake Tahoe community,” said Vollmer. “He is thrilled about the opportunity to work with staff and partner agencies in a new capacity. As executive director, he be will responsible for carrying out Tahoe RCD’s mission along with managing and directing the internal business operations.

“I have lived and worked in Lake Tahoe since 2001. I am very excited to engage with our partners to get projects on the ground and continue providing exceptional conservation services to protect Lake Tahoe,” he said.

Vollmer will be transitioning into the position over the next few weeks.
