SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – The next meeting of the South Lake Tahoe City Council will be on Tuesday, April 21, at 5:30 p.m. A special closed session will be held at 3 p.m. to discuss the “public employment appointment” of a city manager.
On the 5:30 p.m. agenda:
Two big topics are expected to take a big portion of the meeting: Liberty and bears.
Liberty will have a presentation on the closure of the walk-in customer service center in South Lake Tahoe, energy supply procurement with NV Energy no longer being where Liberty procures its power, rate increases, and advanced metering infrastructure. Council has a letter ready to go to the California Public Utilities Commission, if it is approved. The letter is a protest of Liberty and a lack of informing the city of their customer service counter closure, asking for better communication about emergency procurement for an energy supplier, and a rate increase.
There is also an agenda item concerning the council’s direction regarding Collaborative Bear Process and Protocol on: (1) increasing fines for violations related to trash management and providing wildlife access to food; (2) designating the City as a Bear Sanctuary City or Bear Wise Community; (3) establishment and funding of a City Bear Liaison position; (4) formal written correspondence from City Council to CDFW and/or Bear League requesting specific actions; (5) amending the Vacation Home Rental Ordinance to explicitly require property owners/managers to provide Bear Aware education materials to renters; (6) providing pilot program funding to partner with South Tahoe Refuse to provide container cleaning service; and (7) continuation of City facilitation of discussions between CDFW, Bear League and community partners regarding management of habituated bears.
Also on the agenda is the master fee schedule, proclamations on National Child Abuse Prevention Month and National Sexual Assault Awareness Month, and a presentation from Lions International, a service club.
