SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – An 87-year-old man from Fair Oaks, Calif. died after being involved in a single-vehicle collision on April 19.

At approximately 2:20 p.m., William Keller was driving his 2012 Nissan Maxima south on SR-89 near One Ring Road which is just north of DL Bliss State Park. For reasons still under investigation, Mr. Keller’s vehicle traveled off the road where he went through a marshy area, colliding with numerous willow trees. He was able to get his car onto SR89 where he traveled across both lanes in a southeasterly direction, going off the east side of the road, colliding with conifer trees where the car came to a rest.

Keller was seatbelted and trapped in the car. Fire fighting personnel used the “jaws of life” to remove the roof of the car and extricate him. He was transported to Renown Hospital in Reno where he arrived at 4:18 p.m.

Despite life-saving measures, he was pronounced deceased at 4:50 pm.

This collision is still under investigation.
