SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – Earth Week Tahoe wraps up with Send it Sustainably Saturday! What better way to celebrate 52 years of Earth Day than exploring a new place and leaving no trace in Lake Tahoe’s mountain paradise?
Practice the Leave No Trace Principles – Learn the seven principles of Leave No Trace to minimize your impact on the places you love. Make sure you plan ahead. Travel and camp on durable surfaces. Dispose of waste properly by putting trash in a trashcan, or packing it out if the can is already full. Leave what you find, but take as many pictures as you’d like! Follow Smokey Bear’s advice to properly put out campfires. Last but not least, respect wildlife and be considerate of other visitors. If we all do our part, we can not only enjoy Lake Tahoe’s beauty but also ensure that our children and great-great-grandchildren can do the same.
Hike, Run, or Scavenger Hunt in a new place – There are so many amazing trails in Tahoe, head to takecaretahoe.org to discover a new place. Be sure to blaze a trail of kindness wherever you end up. Taking the kids along? Be sure to download the nature scavenger hunt for a fun activity on the trail.
Walk, Bike, or Bus – You can be car-free and carefree on miles of walking and biking paths, along convenient bus routes, or in a fun and functional water taxi. Head to takecaretahoe.org to learn how to get around without your car and reduce your carbon footprint.
End your Tahoe Earth Week fun by joining us tomorrow at our Earth Day Festival on Sunday, April 24 from 10 am-3 pm at Bijou Community Park. Learn more at southtahoeearthday.org
