SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – Tahoe Resistance Alliance (TRA), powered by 50501 Tahoe, is building on the momentum created by the No Kings Alliance over the past year. According to a press release, “they are organizing a sustained, community-driven effort resisting authoritarian policies and strengthening democratic engagement in the Tahoe Basin and beyond.”
As part of the broader 50501 Movement and 50501 CA network, TRA is bringing together individuals and aligned groups across California and Nevada to engage in non-cooperation efforts, apply pressure on elected officials at all levels, and organize awareness and visibility actions that mobilize people power.
Local organizers say they are “Grounded in the values of peace, the rule of law, justice, a multiracial democracy, support for immigrants, trust in science, urgent climate action, preservation of public lands, and protection of civil and human rights, the alliance focuses on building an active and informed coalition committed to long-term change.”
The current efforts of TRA are centered on promoting and participating in regional events like Earth Day and MayDay actions, strengthening collaboration with other 50501 groups in California and Northern Nevada, and expanding educational outreach on key issues.
In May, the group is partnering on voter registration and civic engagement initiatives, while continuing to grow its communication networks as they prepare for electoral engagement leading into the 2026 elections.
“We build momentum the most when enough people begin acting with purpose in
enough places that those in power can no longer rely on passivity. Social movements
are built through networks, repeated participation, and visible forms of solidarity,” organizers said in the press release.
Their first resistance action will be on Friday, May 1, 2026 – Tahoe Strikes Back. The action is to highlight the public’s ability to “flex its economic power, sending a message that they refuse to do business as usual as rights are trampled, communities are terrorized, and the war continues.”
Led by May Day Strong, this will be a day of mass refusal to engage with the American economic engine and flex our economic power in a massive day of nonviolent economic disruption on May 1. They are calling for no work, no school, no shopping, no streaming, no AI, no social media.
The public is invited to join them at Lakeview Commons on May 1 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. to “rally support for workers over billionaires, our immigrant community, and the Free Palestine Movement. Show your resistance against the Trump Administration policies that are hurting people and dismantling our democracy.”
