SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – The Soroptimist International of South Lake Tahoe club will be holding a special Denim Day presentation during their meeting on Wednesday, April 30 at the South Tahoe Association of Realtors’ (STAOR) building at 12 p.m. The public is invited to attend.

The presentation is on Sexual Assault Awareness with Live Violence Free, led by Stephanie Zepeda-Ledezma, LCSW. Learn about the roots and impact of Denim Day, the realities of sexual violence, how to recognize warning signs, and how to support survivors with empathy and action. You’ll walk away with practical tools, key statistics, and local resources to help create a safer, more informed community. Stand together, raise awareness, and be part of a community that believes and supports survivors.

Denim Day is an annual campaign held each year on a Wednesday in April, coinciding with Sexual Assault Awareness Month. It’s a day when people are encouraged to wear denim as a visible symbol of support for survivors of sexual violence and to challenge harmful misconceptions about the issue. Its origins can be traced to a 1998 ruling by the Italian Supreme Court that overturned a rape conviction. The court stated that because the victim was wearing tight jeans, she must have helped her attacker remove them, implying consent.

The STAOR building is located at 2307 James Ave., South Lake Tahoe.
