SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – As summer temperatures increase and vegetation fuel moistures decrease, residents are faced with the ever-present danger of another wildfire threatening our communities.

On Saturday, May 3, 2025, (rain or shine), the Al Tahoe Firewise district is hosting a “Wildfire Preparedness Clean Up Day” with assistance from South Lake Tahoe Fire Rescue (SLTFR), South Tahoe Refuse (STR) and Tahoe Resource Conservation District (TRCD) / Fire Adapted Communities.

Residents are encouraged to assume responsibility for protecting their homes by creating defensible space up to 100 feet through vegetation management and home hardening.

Al Tahoe Firewise will have 100 of the yard waste bags (3 per resident) to pick up at the Meet and Greet on Saturday at 768 Los Angeles Ave. from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Highlights of the Clean Up Day Event:

  • A “Meet and Greet” at 768 Los Angeles Ave. from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Firewise team leaders will provide refreshments and distribute Go Bags with a Home Assessment Checklist, Insurance Companies Offering Discounts, evacuation, defensible space brochures, and paper yard waste bags
  • Two Fire Inspectors from SLTFR will be on site to discuss the City’s fire inspection program and to register home assessment inspections with residents.
  • A “vent screen” demonstration by TRCD will show why homeowners should replace vents with 1/8 inch screens
  • Six “Yard Waste Only” dumpsters, provided by STR, will be located throughout the Al Tahoe neighborhoods for residents only. Locations are noted on posters displayed throughout the community and at altahoefirewise.com
  • “Al Tahoe Firewise USA Certificates” (for residents to give to their insurance providers including the California Fair Plan for discounts), will be available
