SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – The South Tahoe Public Utility District (STPUD) Board of Directors is considering new water and sewer rates to repair and replace 50 to 90 year-old pipes and keep up with increasing construction costs.

For a typical residential customer, the proposed sewer increase would be around $6.00 per month to upgrade aging sewer pipes, pumps, and plant facilities and prevent costly spills. On the water side, a rate increase of around $7.00 per month is being considered to replace undersized pipes, install new fire hydrants, and upgrade facilities to ensure adequate water for firefighting. If approved, the rates would go into effect July 1, 2025.

On May 16, 2024, the District’s Board of Directors approved a series of rate increases to help fund these critical improvements for water and sewer after completing a rate study. This is currently in year two of those planned increases.
