SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – Gone from the scene since 2018, a group of community members is resurrecting Pop Warner Football in South Lake Tahoe. A previous reboot was attempted, but the pandemic shut down those efforts, and now dedicated parents and coaches have launched the South Tahoe Pop Warner Football and Cheer Association.
Shane Rollins is one of those spearheading the reboot and is the board president/head coach. He is looking forward to giving youth the opportunity to learn the game and teach them how to play before they get to high school. A local coach involved in flag football and other leagues, Rollins has been working with USA Football to get the training and support coaches need to get the league off the ground.
So far, they have 19 players ready for the season, ages 9 to 14. Once the league gets going, the Board will look at expanding the ages in the league. There is flag football for the younger set, for now. They start conditioning this summer, and practice starts in August.
Cheerleaders are also a big part of the new league.
Through the spirit and fundamentals of cheer and football, South Lake Tahoe Pop Warner seeks to empower the community and youth. The goal of the organization is to motivate and inspire youth in many areas, including athletics and academic success, by emphasizing leadership skills and values, including teamwork, discipline, accountability and positivity.

To help defray costs and to share more league information, Pop Warner is holding a fundraiser on May 5 at Steamers with local band Bread & Butter from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. There will be beverage and food specials
