MEYERS, Calif. – During its meeting on Friday, the Tahoe Paradise Recreation and Park District Board of Directors heard a proposal to hold the Valhalla Renaissance Faire at the park over two days in August, 2026.

Even before the meeting started, it was a hot topic after a Facebook post announced the possible venue change of the popular event to Tahoe Paradise. After a few negative comments on that post, the item was removed from the Park’s Facebook page.

Many neighborhood residents told the board that the Faire is too big for the park, and the crowd and parking impacts would be too much for the surrounding streets. They were also concerned about safety issues and evacuation issues should there be a fire. They were also concerned about possible camping, but the event promoter told them there would only be camping by security guards who stay on site the whole weekend, not vendors or guests.

“This doesn’t align with our values as a park,” said one of the speakers who lives adjacent to the park.

The Faire, including jousting, would be held at the northern end of the park between the Upper Truckee River and Bakersfield Street near the ball field.

The Board said the park could make about $25,000 over the two-day event from a percentage of ticket and alcohol sales.

The promoter said they would arrange to have parking at area schools, then have shuttle buses bring them to the park. He also told those at the meeting that law enforcement and their own security will help manage parking and crowds. The event could draw 3500 people a day.

No decision was made, and this agenda item will come back at a future board meeting. The next official meeting is May 26, but they could schedule a special meeting before then.
