SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – A Lake Wind Advisory is in effect Thursday from noon until 8:00 p.m. The National Weather Service (NWS) expects southwest to west winds, 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 40 mph expected. Waves on the lake could be 2-4 feet from mid-lake to eastern shores.
The low-pressure system moving into the Pacific Northwest that is bringing the winds will also bring isolated thunderstorms and blowing dust east of Highway 395. Lighter breezes continue into Friday with cooler temperatures for Friday and the weekend. Next week will feature warm conditions with light winds.
The greatest thunderstorm threat is roughly from Mono Lake northward into Lyon, Mineral, Churchill, and Pershing Counties from 3:00 p.m.- 9:00 p.m. Thursday.
The last piece of energy from this trough will pass through Friday night and shift the winds to the north-northeast, according to NWS Reno. Winds may be a bit gusty again early Saturday morning, especially for those heading out to Pyramid Lake, Tahoe, or venturing up into the higher elevations of the Sierra.
