LAKE TAHOE, Nev. – The Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) is updating the public on new working hours for its US50 repaving project between Stateline and Spooner Summit.
NEW WORKING HOURS: 24-hour work zones with single lane closures Sundays at 7 p.m. through Fridays at 5 p.m. in May before Memorial Day weekend. June through August: work will start on Sundays at 8 p.m. and conclude at noon on Fridays.
Barrier and guard rail work will also occur Saturday, May 9 and Saturday, May 16, through 5 p.m. Crews will resume Sunday at 7 p.m. Additional weekends are not anticipated at this time and will be communicated if that changes. Traffic control going westbound from Spooner Summit to Glenbrook will be in effect on Sunday, May 10 and 17, providing an opportunity to accelerate the schedule and lessen impact during the busy summer season to provide safety benefits for the life of the barrier rail. Crews are removing the old barrier rail from Glenbrook toward Cave Rock while installing the new guard rail as well as from Glenbrook toward Spooner Summit. Work is 24-hours a day and will adhere to noise abatement hours after 8 p.m. Weather permitting, work is anticipated to be finalized before Memorial Day weekend. A minimum of one lane in each direction will stay open at all times. Drivers can anticipate moderate travel delays through the work zone. Speed will be reduced to 35 mph through work zones. While access to businesses and residences will be continuously maintained in most areas, certain side streets and driveways will temporarily be impacted as roadway excavation takes place in the immediate area. Steel plates and earthwork will then be used after excavation to reestablish side street access. No work is anticipated from Thursday, July 2, at noon until Sunday, July 12, 8 p.m. Scheduling consideration will be given to major events (i.e. outdoor concerts, special events, competitions, school schedules, etc.) to maintain smooth traffic flow.
Starting May 7 through June 30 crews will be working on traffic signals and lighting from Zephyr Cove to Stateline with day and night time lane restrictions. There will remain access to businesses.
NOISE IMPACTS NEAR GLENBROOK:
Over the next three weeks, residents along U.S. 50 can expect to hear some work noise in the area during swing shifts and daytime hours while crews remove the old barrier rail.
The contractor will use select equipment and tools to minimize noise during swing and night shift work on guardrail and barrier rail.
