SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – Those driving along Al Tahoe Blvd. in South Lake Tahoe recently have noticed construction activity outside of Bijou Community Park. There are two projects currently underway – a new leg of the bike trail connector and the resodding of the dog park.
The .6-mile project of bicycle and pedestrian trail will link the Dennis Machida Memorial Greenway Bike Trail, constructed in 2021, with the Al Tahoe Mobility Project constructed in 2020 on Johnson and Al Tahoe boulevards. The trail lies entirely within the City of South Lake Tahoe’s Bijou Park property.
The project has a price tag of $1,849,056, with funds from Measure S, the City, and grants footing the bill.
- TRPA AQ Mitigation Funds – $183,518
- City of South Lake Tahoe General Fund – $300,000
- Community Development Block Grant HUD – $977,056
- Measure S and Measure R – $172.000
- TRPA Mobility Mitigation Funds – $216.482
- Targeted funding – $572.000
The mixed-use trail is planned for completion this year.
Bijou Dog Park
Work began on Monday, May 11, on the Bijou Dog Park. Half of the Big Dog side will be temporarily closed to allow for the installation of recycled sod from the Linear Park turf conversion project.
This work will take place in two phases:
Phase 1: Half of the park will be closed for approximately 6 weeks
Phase 2: Once that side reopens, the other half will close for another 6 weeks
This phased approach allows part of the park to remain open while improvements are underway. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we complete this project.
