Lincoln Ayers, Logan Robinson, and Chris Foderik are all smiles earlier this year after Logan set the Whittell School Record in the 3200m 10:07.24.

ZEPHYR COVE, Nev. – Whittell Track and Field competed at the 1A Northern Regional Championships, May 8 – May 9, at Reno High School.  Both the boys’ and the girls’ teams finished fourth place overall and will send numerous individuals and relay teams to the Nevada 1A State Championships, May 15 and 16 at Hug High School in Sparks.

Senior Myelayla “Myemye” Martinez led the Whittell girls’ team.  The four-time state champion qualified to race in the 1600m for the fourth consecutive year with a time of 6:08.91.   Myemye also anchored the 4×200 (2nd – 1:58.90) and 4×800 (1st – 11:15.46) relays, which qualified for state.  The all-freshman 4x100m relay of Madyson Scott, Kate Pilsbury, Anna Annesley, and Zoe Spitler earned a gold medal (55.74) and will also compete this weekend at state.   Other qualifiers for Whittell are Zoe Spitler in the 100m hurdles (18.13), Caroline Schilling in the triple jump, and Anna Annesly in the 400m and the triple jump.

The boys will also send a contingent to the state meet.

Senior Logan Robinson will go for the record books as he attempts to sweep the distance races (800m, 1600m, 3200m) for the fourth consecutive year.  The nine gold medals Logan has earned thus far put him in second place all-time in Nevada behind the 10 gold medals earned by Jordan Savidge of Smith Valley, 2003-2006.   Logan is seeded 1st overall in each of the distance races and will also compete in the 400m.

The foursome of Colter Robinson, Jax Cassidy, Jan Stremkis, and Brent Smith qualified for the state meet in three relays.  The boys will race Friday in the 4x200m, and Saturday will include the 4x100m and 4x400m.  Junior exchange student Jan Stremkis of Germany also qualified in the high jump and will compete when the meet begins at 1 p,m, on Friday, May 15.
