SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – The Lake Tahoe Unified School District Board of Education celebrated student career success and reviewed major district facility upgrades. It recognized school achievements during the April 23, 2026, regular board meeting.

South Tahoe High School’s Career Technical Education and Tahoe Science Program Teacher Richard Kinnett highlighted hands-on learning experiences and career pathways available to students. Mr. Kinnett recognized senior Kezdon Wigart, who was recently hired as a Type 2 Wildland Firefighter by the Meyers Forest Service Station, and will begin work immediately following graduation. His achievement marks an important milestone for the growing program and its focus on preparing students for careers in forestry, environmental science, and wildfire.

The Board also received an update from Veregy on districtwide energy and sustainability improvements currently underway across LTUSD campuses. Veregy Senior Partnerships Manager Brett Gallagher shared progress on projects including upgraded solar systems, lighting improvements, and boiler replacements designed to modernize aging infrastructure, improve energy efficiency, and reduce long-term operational costs for the district.

Additional highlights from the meeting included:

Recognition of Sierra House Elementary Intervention Teacher Mandy Miller as the 2026 Soul Shoppe Peacemaker Champion for promoting kindness and positive school culture.

Updates from Bijou Community School and South Tahoe Middle School on student achievement, writing instruction, school culture, and attendance improvements.

Celebration of graduating seniors during Scholarship Night, including recognition of Student Board Member Arya Saini for receiving multiple scholarships and committing to Columbia University.

Introduction of new principals, Tiffany Allison at Sierra House Elementary and Becky Barry at Tahoe Valley Elementary.

The Board also approved support for Measure B, benefiting the South Lake Tahoe Library, and reviewed ongoing district modernization and facilities planning efforts.
