SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. — Community organizations, local businesses, advocates, and residents continue come together throughout May 2026 for a series of Mental Health Awareness Month events designed to promote connection, reduce stigma, encourage conversation, and strengthen community support in South Lake Tahoe.

The collaborative effort includes Peace Love TaHOPE; Access Tahoe, Unity at the Lake, the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, Soul Shop, SLT Mutual Aid, Forever 14, Spread the Word Nevada, Petal Kindness, Three Pines Coffee Co., Bare Roots Coffee & Kava Lounge, Tahoe Henna, and additional community partners.

Events throughout the month have featured community gatherings, educational conversations, walks and movement activities, remembrance spaces, art and sign making, coffee-and-connection events, and discussions centered on resilience, belonging, and mental wellness.

“This month is about reminding people that they are not alone,” organizers shared. “By creating welcoming spaces for conversation, creativity, remembrance, movement, and mutual support, we hope to build a stronger and more compassionate community together.”

Radical Learning: Radical Belonging
Monday, May 18 | 6–8 p.m.
Unity at the Lake Meeting Space
870 Emerald Bay Rd., 2nd Floor (Elevator Available)

Hosted by Nathan Wheeler and SLT Mutual Aid, this community conversation will explore the idea of “Radical Belonging” — how people can release, imagine, and create together a community and world where everyone belongs. Organizers invite the public to join an open and thoughtful discussion centered on connection, inclusion, and collective care.

Hope & Henna: Coffee & Connection
Tuesday, May 19 | 9 a.m.–12 p.m.
Bare Roots Coffee & Kava Lounge
A gathering featuring coffee and connection, plus hope and henna art by Ravinder. A percentage of henna and beverage purchases will support Access Tahoe and the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.

Peace Love TaHOPE; Community Gathering
Sunday, May 24 | 1–3 p.m.
Lakeview Commons, South Lake Tahoe
An inclusive community gathering and movement for hope, joy, connection, and mental health featuring games, art, sign making, resources, remembrance space, giveaways, and community connection. Attendees are encouraged to bring blankets, crafts, picnics, friends, and family. All are welcome.

Let’s Talk About The Paradise Paradox
Thursday, May 28 | 5:30–7:30 p.m.
Three Pines Coffee Co.
A community conversation continuing dialogue sparked by the Lake Tahoe Film Festival screening of The Paradise Paradox, exploring connection, belonging, and mental health in mountain communities. Light refreshments will be provided.
