SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – The South Tahoe High Vikings had an epic track and field season, wrapped up with a stellar 2026 NIAA State Track and Field Championships, held last weekend at Hug High School.

The STHS Girls Team took top honors after two years of second-place finishes, while the Boys Team ended up in third in the state.

“This is an amazing group of kids,” said Coach Rob Canny III. “They love to compete and root each other on.” Canny, along with Coach Elliot Amsden, led the team to a successful regional championship showing on to the state championships.

Canny said the teams had been amazing and supportive all season. Some of the team will be heading to Oregon for the 2026 Nike Outdoor Nationals, June 18–22 at Hayward Field in Eugene, though who will be traveling hasn’t been announced at this time.

Highlights from the state title run for the girls were Arya Saini, a soon-to-be-freshman at Columbia University, had a long jump of 18′ 7″, Jamie Lowe ran a 45.86 in the 300m hurdles, Peyton Conley went 17′ 10.5″ on the long jump and 37′ 7.5″ on the triple jump, Lyla Landy ran a 5:20:27 at the 1600m, and was on the second place 4 x 800m relay with her sister Madelyn, and sisters Eva and Avery Griscom. Arya placed first in back-to-back years in two events. The 4x100m relay for girls brought home the gold.

Senior Jackson Letton placed first in the state in the 100m dash for boys. The boys’ 4x400m relay took second with freshman Max Vadnais showing what is to come as a member of that relay team, and took second in the 800m.

With some of the standouts at state not seniors this year, Canny is looking forward to another great season next year.
