Previous clean up by Kiwanis at the historic cemetery

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – Did you know there are two cemeteries in South Lake Tahoe? Everyoe knows where Happy Homestead is, but the ‘other’ and ‘older’ cemetery is known as the Al Tahoe Pioneer Cemetery on Alameda Avenue, between Berkeley and Fresno Avenues in the Al Tahoe area.

Every year, for the past 15 years or so, the Kiwanis Club of Tahoe has gone into the cemetery twice a year (Spring and Fall) to rake up the pine needles and pine cones to help give the old cemetery a facelift.  The next cleanup is Thursday, May 28, at 2 p.m. If you can help, bring a rake!  If we get enough people to help, we can ‘easily’ be done within one hour.  Also, thank you to South Tahoe Refuse (Ron McKusick & Jeff Tillman) for donating the dumpster for us to discard the needles and cones.

There are guided tours offered once or twice a year by the Al Tahoe Pioneer Cemetery Improvement Committee, so watch out for the schedule, or contact the Lake Tahoe Historical Museum at 530.541.5458. The gate is opened daily by the City of South Lake Tahoe Parks & Recreation staff, and the public is welcome to check it out.

Any other questions???  Call me at 530-308-5215.  Thank you in advance for your support.
