One of the most popular clubs at South Tahoe Middle School (STMS) is Club Live. The club is open to all STMS students and its goal is to promote a healthy lifestyle by providing safe, high-energy alternative activities. In addition to featuring leadership events, club meetings, and recreational trips, the club also encourages its members to participate in community service projects.
Towards the end of the school year, one of the community service projects that the club members participate in is a Bread & Broth Adopt A Day of Nourishment (AAD) sponsorship. The club’s advisor Mr. Larry Lambdin, the STMS 8th grade resource specialist, has arranged for Club Live to bring members to participate in the Monday Meal service every year since 2016.
Every year, the students who come to service on the AAD crew are motivated students interested in helping others. The three lovely young ladies who volunteered at this year’s Club Live AAD on May 15 were no exception.
Joining Mr. Lambdin and the club’s co-advisor, Jessica Melton were Club Live members Maura Martinez Casillas, Makayla Melton, and Koral Bannister Oser. They were very helpful in providing desserts and handing out bags of free food to the dinner guests and at the end of the evening, they helped the B&B volunteers with the meal’s cleanup.
When asked to give a short comment regarding their experience helping at the B&B dinner, the girls collectively shared that, “You only live once, why not make the best out of it and help others?” Truly words of wisdom encouraged by their participation in Club Live.
A few Adopt A Day of Nourishment dates in July are still available for sponsorship. For information, please contact Carol Gerard at 310-256-1019.
