SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – The South Lake Tahoe Optimist Club recognized Junior Optimist members and recent scholarship winners during a special event on Friday, May 15, at the Lake Tahoe Community College Boardroom.

During the event, the club recognized 17 senior members of the South Tahoe High School Junior Optimist Club. This group of students was responsible for helping start the club in 2023.  The Optimists also recognized 11 scholarship winners. During the earlier South Tahoe High School Scholarship night, the recipients received their scholarship awards. Lastly, the current Junior Optimist officers were introduced. 

Scholarship-winning students include: Sky Nichols-Shipley, Arya Saini, Tegan Klem, Alice Lilly, Lisa Schumacher, Lupita Rehn, Ayla Truscott, Ava Galli, Hannah Fishburger, Cameron Irwin, Diem Johnson, and Soren Valadez Sandwick. 

Junior Optimist Members that were recognized were: Anica Boten, Kylee Caudill, Keller Fox, Yeralyn Hernandez, Tegan Klem, Lyla Landy, Daisy Le, Skye Levy, Mia Martinez, Joanna Maxwell, Aidan Melendez, Lupita Rehn, Keira Salee, Sky Nichols-Shipley, Lisa Schumacher, Desiree Tumbaga and Alexa Ubias. 

The current club officers who were acknowledged were: Ruby Hackett, co-president; Charlotte Potts, co-president; Kaleigh Higgins, vice-president; Kaya Ferry, secretary; and Avery Griscom, treasurer. Caren LeVine is the club advisor, and Connie Yale serves as the primary Optimist club liaison.

The South Lake Tahoe Optimist Club is a service organization of men and women that works to help fund activities that help support youth.
