SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – The next meeting of the South Lake Tahoe City Council is on Tuesday, June 2. The regular meeting starts at 9 a.m. in Council Chambers at the airport with a closed session at 8 a.m.
On the agenda:
There will be the annual public hearing for the continued snow removal equipment purchase funded through the existing County Service Area No. 3 (CSA 3) parcel assessment. On September 20, 1989, a Joint Powers Agreement (JPA) between the City of South Lake Tahoe and El Dorado County was executed to allow the County to form a Zone of Benefit within CSA 3, which lies within the municipal boundaries of the City of South Lake Tahoe. The agreement allows the County to levy a charge of $20.00 per improved parcel. These funds are dedicated to purchasing new snow removal equipment for the City.
The first reading of an ordinance amending Chapter 4.60 of the South Lake Tahoe City Code (Nuisances Consisting of Abandoned or Substantially Damaged Nondwelling Structures) to expressly authorize daily citations. The proposed ordinance expressly authorizes, but does not require, daily citations. Staff
recommends the issuance of citations, including frequency for same, remain at the discretion of the City Building Official or their designee. Staff has identified additional possible amendments that would facilitate the prompt and equitable issuance of citations for such nuisance issues, as appropriate, but does not recommend daily citations.
Pride Resolution be amended to include the annual issuance of a Proclamation Recognizing June as “Pride Month”.
Draft a Five-Year Capital Improvement Plan and FY 26-27 Budget Recommendations.
Consider an ordinance to regulate tobacco retail businesses including buffer zones from sensitive uses such as schools and enforcement of underage purchases. In order to preserve the status quo while City Council and staff study this issue and develop reasonable regulations, staff suggests passing an urgency ordinance to
establish a temporary moratorium on approval of new tobacco retailer applications. Currently, the City does not regulate tobacco retailers differently than any other type of retail business. The ordinance could include regulation on vapes, flavored tobacco, a cap on busineses, among other suggestions.
Unpermitted Vacation Home Rental Enforcement. Since 2022 there have been 511 citations for unpermitted rentals.
