Measure G continues the funding to maintain our bike paths, Tahoe Paradise Park and our ballfields. Without a dedicated source of funding, this infrastructure would have to be maintained with General Fund money from the City and County. The general fund is not a stable source of funding, because deferring maintenance is often the first step to cutting costs in tight times.
In the long run, that deferred maintenance ends up costing the public much more, just like deferred maintenance on your car. Maybe you haven’t thought about it, because since 2000, the maintenance has just been taken care of. Well, it hasn’t happened by magic. We’ve been paying for it through Measure S since 2000, and Measure G will continue that funding through 2060. And we have seen the maintenance money put to good use, from funding the replacement turf at the college soccer field, to maintaining the pickleball courts at Tahoe Paradise Park, to patching and sealing the bike paths, as well as snow removal on the bike paths in the winter, and much more.
With the passing of Measure G, we will ensure that these community assets will continue to get the maintenance they need, when it is needed and not when politicians decide it is worth spending the money.
