SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – For the first time in the City of South Lake Tahoe’s history, a “Key to the City” has been presented. Retiring Police Chief David Stevenson was honored with the key during a large, overflowing crowd at City Hall on Friday. Family, friends, staff, current and former members of the South Lake Tahoe Police Department from Hawaii to the East Coast came to watch Stevenson’s presentation and the changing of the guard with the pinning of Jeff Roberson, the City’s new chief.
Other promotions were also celebrated: Russell Liles from sergeant to lieutenant, Matt Morrison from detective to sergeant.

Whereas, David Stevenson has dedicated thirty years of exceptional service to the City of South Lake Tahoe Police Department, serving with honor, integrity, and unwavering commitment to the safety and well-being of our community; and
Whereas, throughout his distinguished career, he has earned the respect and admiration of colleagues, city officials, and citizens alike through professional excellence, and compassionate service, guiding the department through times of growth, change, and challenge; and
Whereas, David Stevenson has played a vital role in shaping a safer, stronger, and more united Police Department, going above and beyond the call of duty with courage, leadership, and heart; and
Whereas, the City of South Lake Tahoe recognizes and celebrates the invaluable impact of David Stevenson’s service, leadership, and recognizes the immeasurable value of three decades of public service, which have left a lasting impact on generations of residents which will be remembered for years to come.
Now, Therefore, I, Tamara Wallace, Mayor of the City of South Lake Tahoe, do hereby present to David Stevenson the “Key to the City” as a symbol of our deepest gratitude, highest esteem, and enduring respect.
