LAKE TAHOE, Calif./Nev. – The states of Nevada and California have released their list of coordinated construction projects around the Lake Tahoe Basin for 2026.


 In South Lake Tahoe, no lane-closing work is expected in the week ahead, except for pavement grinding on Friday near Stateline. There will be more nighttime work scheduled in South Lake Tahoe next week related to the safety and lighting project along US50.

Caltrans is advising motorists of the continuation of several construction projects within the Lake Tahoe basin next week.

Along State Route 28 (SR 28), construction on a $31.7 million Caltrans pavement rehabilitation project continues. The contractor for this project is Mercer Fraser Company of Eureka. Last fall, crews completed resurfacing SR 28 through Tahoe City and have returned the past few weeks to paint crosswalks, traffic lanes and green bike lane treatment through the Tahoe City area.

Grinding and paving operations are scheduled with one-way traffic control along SR 28 for the following dates/times and locations next week:

  • 7 p.m. Sunday, June 14 until 7 a.m. Monday, June 15 between Onyx Street and Stag Drive
  • 7 p.m. Monday, June 15 until 7 a.m. Tuesday, June 16 between Agate Road and West Agatam Avenue
  • 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 16 until 7 a.m. Wednesday, June 17 between West Agatam Avenue and Anderson Road
  • 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 17 until 7 a.m. Thursday, June 18 between the State Route 267 junction and Pino Grande Avenue
  • 7 p.m. Thursday, June 18 until 7 a.m. Friday, June 19 between the State Route 267 junction and Pino Grande Avenue

Electrical work is scheduled along SR 28 between Anderson Road andNational Avenueand between the State Route 267 junction and East Agatam Avenuefrom 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. Monday, June 15 through Thursday, June 18. Work is also scheduled Friday, June 19 from 6 a.m. until noon.

Along State Route 267, crack seal operation is scheduled between Martis Creek Lake Road and Sawmill Flat Road from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. Monday, June 15 through Thursday, June 18. 

In El Dorado County along State Route 89 (SR 89), paving operations are scheduled between the Alpine County line and the U.S. Highway 50 junction in Meyers from 4 a.m. until 4 p.m. Monday, June 15 through Thursday, June 18. 

The broadband project is part of a larger statewide effort by the California Department of Technology to bring high-speed internet into rural communities. The contractor for this project is Teichert Construction.

Utility work is scheduled with one-way traffic control along SR 89 at the following locations and dates/times:

  • Monday, June 15 through Thursday, June 18 from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. between Camp Richardson and Cascade Creek. Work is also scheduled for Friday, June 19 from 7 a.m. until 5 p.m.
  • Monday, June 15 through Thursday, June 18 from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. between Meeks Creek and the El Dorado/Placer County line. Work is also scheduled for Friday, June 19 from 7 a.m. until 5 p.m.
  • Evenings and overnights Sunday, June 14 through Friday, June 19 from 7 p.m. until 6 a.m. between the El Dorado/Placer County line and Sugar Pine Road.

Motorists could encounter total delays of up to 20 minutes due to the various construction activitiesPlease allow for extra time to reach your destination, especially during school drop-off and pick-up times. All work on road construction projects will be suspended on weekends and holidays. Schedules are subject to change due to weather conditions, equipment or material availability, or other unexpected events.
