SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – AYSO (American Youth Soccer Organization) Region 282 invites registrations for fall youth soccer, ages 4 to 18. Registration is open until June 30, with an early bird discount available for those who register by June 15.
Practices start in August, while games begin in early September and run through mid-October, ending with the “Big Blue Tournament” on the weekend of October 17. Winning teams may go on to play the “Cookies” tournament in Carson City, provided the teams have coaches and referees available.
Early registration is the best way to get your child placed on a team, but if you find they are waitlisted, the AYSO board encourages you to go ahead and register. Regional Commissioner, Robby Randolph, says, “Go ahead and register. Kids come off the waitlist in the order that they registered.”
Benefits of AYSO Soccer
AYSO is grounded in its six core philosophies, which the volunteer board members are all passionate about. Those are:
- Everyone Plays – Every player on every team plays at least fifty percent of the game.
- Balanced Teams – Teams are set up to be as balanced as possible so they play teams of similar ability.
- Open Registration – All youth are welcome to play.
- Positive Coaching – AYSO coaches create positive experiences for every player.
- Good Sportsmanship – AYSO encourages a positive environment of mutual respect.
- Player Development – Players are encouraged to develop their soccer skills and knowledge to the best of their abilities.
Region 282 also offers opportunities for further development for rec players who would like to play more competitive soccer. They run tryouts for “Spring Select” or Alliance teams from early in the year, where teams from 10U and up train, play in competitive leagues, and compete in tournaments.
Volunteers Encouraged
AYSO is entirely volunteer-driven and needs a variety of volunteers for a successful season. They encourage parents, friends, neighbors and anyone in the community who is interested in helping out to sign up to volunteer. Roles include: coaches, referees, board members, field setup, and more. “Don’t worry if you don’t have prior experience, we provide training,” says Randolph.
