SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Lake Wind Advisory for Lake Tahoe from Thursday, June 16 at 11 a.m. until Friday, June 17 at 9 p.m.

Southwest winds are forecast at 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 45 mph expected. Waves on Lake Tahoe will average 2 to 4 feet, so higher can be expected.

Small boats, kayaks, and paddle boards will be prone to capsizing and should remain off lake waters until conditions improve.

Check lake conditions before heading out and be prepared for a sudden increase in winds and wave heights. Consider postponing boating activities on the lake until a day with less wind.

The three-day forecast for Lake Tahoe from NWS Reno:

Today – Sunny, with a high near 77. Breezy, with a southwest wind 10 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph.

Tonight – Mostly clear, with a low around 41. Southwest wind 10 to 15 mph decreasing to 5 to 10 mph after midnight. Winds could gust as high as 30 mph.

Friday – Mostly sunny, with a high near 60. Breezy, with a southwest wind 5 to 10 mph increasing to 15 to 20 mph in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 35 mph.

Friday Night – Mostly clear, with a low around 32. Breezy, with a southwest wind 15 to 20 mph decreasing to 10 to 15 mph after midnight. Winds could gust as high as 35 mph.

Saturday – A 30 percent chance of showers after noon. Snow level rising to 7600 feet in the afternoon. Mostly sunny, with a high near 56. Breezy, with a light southwest wind becoming west 15 to 20 mph in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 30 mph.

Saturday Night – A 20 percent chance of showers before midnight. Snow level 7600 feet lowering to 6900 feet after midnight. Mostly clear, with a low around 32. Breezy, with a west wind 15 to 20 mph becoming light after midnight. Winds could gust as high as 30 mph.
