SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – Above-average temperatures and dry conditions prevail across the region, with a possible increase in winds with lower temperatures by the end of the week.

Sunday was the first day of summer (the summer solstice), bringing the longest day and shortest night of the year.

An upper-level ridge will expand and stretch towards our forecast area over the next few days, resulting in a gradual warm trend. Temperatures are expected to peak on Tuesday, with afternoon highs in the mid- to upper 90s for western Nevada and northeastern California, and in the upper 70s and 80s for Sierra communities, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Reno.

Towards the end of the week, this pattern will shift south, and that change brings an
increase in winds, cooler temperatures (potentially back to seasonal). However, there is still uncertainty with the models in respect to the timing and placement of this system. So, we`ll have to wait and see how this system develops over the next
few days.
