UPDATE MONDAY 5PM: The Conner Fire burning southeast of Gardnerville in Douglas County has been mapped at 17,714 acres and it is now 48% contained. The fire is showing minimal activity, with smoldering and creeping behavior observed along much of the perimeter. In some areas, single tree torching is occurring, where individual trees ignite briefly, indicating the presence of residual heat. While these conditions are generally low intensity, they still require careful monitoring and mop-up to ensure the fire does not reignite or spread under changing weather conditions.
UPDATE MONDAY 8:15AM: The Conner Fire is now 19% contained and it has burned 17,713 acres.
DOUGLAS COUNTY, Nev. – The Conner Fire burning eight miles southeast of Gardnerville continues to burn to the east through tall grasses. The mapping remains at 17,351 acres and, according to Inciweb, containment is expected on July 4.
No plumes of smoke are visible from the Alert Wildfire cameras in the region.
Some firefighting personnel have been pulled back and there are currently 333 people assigned to the Conner Fire.
On Sunday, firefighters will continue constructing a direct line utilizing ground and aviation resources along the flanks of the fire. They will work on securing existing lines and minimizing loss of any previously unburned vegetation in sage grouse habitat while protecting sensitive cultural resources. Wind will continue over the next 24 hours. Inciweb estimates the spread of fire over the next day to be an additional 1,500 acres.
