SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – If you’ve spent time on the trails, at a community event, or volunteering around South Lake Tahoe, you may have seen Scouts blazing the trail or lending a hand where help is needed. These intrepid youth are members of Troop 594, a locally led, family-run Scout Troop shaped by the mountains and community we call home. For the youth involved, Scouting offers far more than a weekly meeting — it’s a chance to build confidence, leadership, and lifelong skills in the outdoors and in navigating life.

This Troop, run entirely by local Scout parents, offers our youth real outdoor adventure — from camping, hiking, climbing, mountain biking, skiing, kayaking, backpacking, and much more — while teaching teamwork, responsibility, and leadership in a supportive, down-to-earth way.  Simply put, we do cool stuff.

Some of the Scouts’ recent service projects include trail building and signage on Kingsbury Stinger, adding signage to the Gunmount and Mr. Toad’s trails, food distributions with local churches, planting and watering trees with the Sugar Pine Foundation, supporting TAMBA events, performing trail maintenance, and campground cleanups.

Our Troop’s mission is clear: support local youth in becoming Prepared for Life.  Our aim is for our Scouts to build a connection to nature, become leaders in their communities, and be knowledgeable citizens capable of managing life’s day-to-day challenges and leading in an emergency.  Our values are the bedrock of who we are and guide our actions.  We recite them at every meeting, and we pledge to live up to these tenets that make up the Scout Law.  A Scout is trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean, and reverent.

The Troop is open to youth ages 10–18 and is inclusive and welcoming to all families. Troop 594 is non-religious, focused solely on Scouting.  Meetings are held on Monday evenings, 5:30 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. at Lake Tahoe Community Presbyterian Church, but when the weather is nice, meetings often shift to an outdoor setting for an activity.  Bigger activities are scheduled at least once a month, typically on weekends, and vary throughout the year.  For families with children in K-5 we also have Cub Scout Pack 592, which is a great way to start your Scouting adventure.
